Take your vocal technique and interpretation skills to the next level with a 4-day course of intensive one-on-one lessons at a beautiful villa in Tuscany.
Spend four days refining your craft, working on repertoire, and making vital connections within the classical music industry, set against the beautiful Italian countryside. Take some time away from the frenetic pace of freelance life or music college to really focus on your artistic development in a sustained, focused, and detailed way, with two expert coaches.
The location
Our base, Villa Beboli, is in the picturesque Tuscan town of Lamporecchio. The town centre is just a 10 minute walk from the Villa. Lessons, accomodations and meals are all on site at the villa. Lamporecchio itself is easily reachable by public transport; approximately 1 hour 30 minutes from Amerigo Vespucci Airport in Florence, or just 1 hour 45 minutes from Pisa International Airport.
The coaches
Masterclass Lamporecchio is a collaboration between voice teacher Kaine Hayward and coach Chad Vindin. They both are acclaimed professionals, working with top level singers in Germany and the UK respectively.
Chad Vindin is a vocal coach at the Royal Academy of Music and a staff pianist at the Royal College of Music, and he performs regularly across the UK and internationally.
As a collaborative pianist he is the winner of the accompanist prize at the Royal Overseas League Competition, the Ludmilla Andrew Russian Song Accompanist Prize at the Royal Academy of Music, and the Maureen Lehane Vocal Awards Accompanist’s Prize at the Wigmore Hall.
Chad has worked extensively in opera for many years. He is a regular music staff with English Touring Opera and the Grange Festival as a repetiteur, coach, and orchestral pianist and harpsichordist. He has also worked with Garsington Opera, Bury Court Opera, Bergen National Opera, and the Royal Opera House, London, and he was a founding member of the Sydney Chamber Opera Company. Chad was assistant conductor for the Grange Festival's production of Yeoman of the Guard, and he also works regularly with smaller opera companies in the UK, such as Merry Opera, Re Opera, and Uncovered Opera, as both pianist and conductor.
He is a regular staff pianist at the Oxenfoord International Summer School for Singers and Accompanists with Malcolm Martineau, and he is an alumni of the Britten-Pears Young Artist Programme. During lockdown he recorded Zemlinsky's four-hand arrangement of Beethoven's opera Fidelio for the Solti studio concert series, alongside Joseph Havlat, available on YouTube.
Kaine Hayward is one of Europe’s most effective and unique vocal instructors. His students have performed worldwide as soloists at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Komische Oper Berlin, Arena di Verona, Teatro Filarmonico Verona, Teatro Verdi di Padova, Magyar Állami Operaház (Budapest), Festspeilhaus Baden-Baden, Theater Kiel, Theater Bremen, Deutsches Nationaltheater (Weimar), Theatre Neustrelitz, Meininger Staatstheater, Theater Altenburg-Gera, Brandenburger Theater, Staatstheater Cottbus, Theater Vorpommern, Theater Stralsund, Theater Lüneburg, Navoi Opera Theater (Tashkent), Folkoperan Stockholm, Grand Theatre Łódź, Theatro Municipal de São Paulo, Opera Australia (Sydney), Pinchgut Opera (Sydney), English National Opera (London), and Regents Opera (London). Kaine is also engaged as a coach and vocal instructor at the Lyric Opera Studio Weimar, and is the co-founder of both the Brandenburg Opera Retreat and Masterclass Lamporecchio.
Kaine is an expert at building voices from scratch, reconstructing severely damaged voices, fixing wobbles, guiding Fach changes, making advanced technical refinements and correcting long-standing issues with resonance, registration, range and diction. He especially loves to work with singers experiencing obscure and persistent technical problems which no one else seems to be able to solve. He has a particular affinity for work with dramatic singers. Kaine’s method reconciles traditional technical ideas with a modern understanding of muscular function and acoustics.
Kaine has worked as a coach and teacher for both professional and aspiring professional singers since relocating to Germany from his native Australia in 2019. Since 2022, he has authored the popular Substack blog Kaine Hayward on Vocal Pedagogy. He is constantly refining his unique method and is absolutely dedicated to the success of his students. His aim in professional life is to help singers to achieve their dreams.
Schedule
On Thursday 8th October, all participants should arrive in Lamporecchio by 2pm. A pizza lunch will be provided at Ristorante Masetto da Lamporecchio. After lunch, the group will go together to Villa Beboli. Rooms will be allocated and an hour will be allowed for settling in and a vocal warm up. From 5pm, each singer will present an item for the group, followed by a joint masterclass with Chad and Kaine. A late dinner will be served at 9pm.
On Friday 9th, Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th, each singer will be allocated 2 separate coaching sessions with both Kaine and Chad. These sessions will be scheduled far enough apart for ample rest between. In the downtime between sessions, singers are free to explore the town and surrounding area. Observing the coaching sessions of other participants is both allowed and encouraged.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be provided each day, along with coffee. Any dietary requirements will be catered to. There is a pool at the property that participants are welcome to use, temperature permitting. The average October top daytime temperature in Lamporecchio ranges from 19°C to 22°C (66°F to 72°F).
On Monday 12th October, breakfast will be served as usual before checkout at 10am.
